Artistic Director You Yin Fen, pianist

Yin Fen is a highly sought-after chamber musician and professional accompanist. She studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, completing her Master degree in Piano Accompaniment with scholarship, where she was tutored by renowned pianists Graeme McNaught, Aaron Shorr, Scott Mitchell, Hester Dickson and Julia Lynch. During her years in Scotland, YinFen played for both French Song and German Lieder weekly vocal coaching classes by Chris Underwood and Helen Lawson, also strings classes by Peter Lissauer. In addition to regular concert appearances, YinFen also participated in masterclass with Roy Howat, and been assigned the job as repetiteur for Pavel Haas’s Opera <Sarlatan>, pianist for instrumental audition of The orchestra of Scottish Opera and conducting examination accessed by Nigel Boddice.

She is also holder of the Bachelor (Hons) of Music validated by University of Wales UK and also the Diploma of Music from NAFA Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Singapore, where she was tutored by renowned pianists Ng Chong Lim and Lim Tshui Fang. During her years in Singapore, she has been involved in numerous concerts includes the premiere performances of new music by local composers in Quinnuance, accompanist for recital by JingPo Ruan soloist of Singapore Chinese Orchestra and recital by renowned father-and-son Huqin players Wong On-yuen and Wong Sun-tat, rehearsal pianist of Singapore Lyric Opera Children Choir for musical work <Pursuant> by Dr. Chen ZhangYi.

Yin Fen had been awarded the Top Scorer for 2007 LTCL Piano Solo with Distinction and 2006 Hedy King Robinson Prize for Grade 8 ABRSM Music Theory with Distinction. She achieved Best Performance Award in 2007 Asian Youth Music Competition and The Best Piano Accompanist in 2008 Tan Ngiang Kaw / Tan Ngiang Ann Memorial Vocal Competition. Other piano duo prizes won in year 2011 includes Peter Lindsay Miller Prize in Glasgow and IBLA Grand Prize International Competition in Italy.

Her recent music collaborative performances include 2017 Flute recital by Roberto Alvarez Principal piccolo of Singapore Symphony Orchestra, 2016 Trombone recital by Jörgen van Rijen Principal trombonist of Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, 2016 Flute recital by Foo Chie Haur Principal flute of National Symphony Orchestra Malaysia, 2015 Vocal recital by Eng Meng Chia, German-based baritone, 2014 Boyne Music Festival’s Young Artists Programme in Ireland, 2013 Piano Duo Recital at Singapore Esplanade Recital Studio with Dr. Tham Horng Kent, 2013 Flute recital by Koh Yew Kia Principal flute of Evergreen Symphony Orchestra.

Most recently, she was invited to be speaker in TEDxTanjung Emas and was invited to be Artistic Director of Kingsburg International Piano Competition 2016 and 2018. Yin Fen is currently the director of Huzza Music Johor Bahru, where she provides music platform for local and international musicians and to promote awareness of classical music among the general public.
